Easyish Things to Ring on Eight

Collected by Edric Ovens

Do you ring at an eight bell tower, but find it difficult to get enough method ringers to ring all eight?  Edric has suggested some interesting things to do, which might even be stepping stones towards ringing Triples and Major.

Big Grandsire Doubles Triples!

The front four bells all plain hunt on 7.
6 and 7 make 5ths, 6-7 down, and 6-7 up.

At the start, the 5 lies one blow in 5th’s and goes in:  the 6and 7 dodge as in Grandsire.

Cloister Triples

2 and 3 plain hunt on 3.
The rest ring Stedman Triples, but only do quick work.
Calls are as in Stedman, and don’t affect 2 and 3.

Front and Back Plain Hunt Triples

The front four plain hunt on four.
5,6 and 7 plain hunt on three above them.
(It takes three lots of plain hunt on the front for rounds to occur.)

Front and Back Plain Hunt Major

The front five plain hunt on five.
The back three plain hunt on three above them.
At the start 8 lies one blow in 8th’s, 7 goes in to lie in 6th’s 6 goes out.
It takes three cycles of plain hunt on the front to get back to rounds.
